Because It Was There!

Col Joux De Plane, France

Climbed our first mountain today! We drove through the incredible mountainous countryside of the area until we arrived at the bottom of Col Joux De Plane. Armed with only a bag of grapes and a couple of cookies, we scrambled up to the top of this mountain. Rachel had to coax Bronwyn every step of the way while Hannah was looking stylish in her pink miniskirt. I strapped Deedee into a back pack. She faired better than her mule as I huffed and puffed the whole way. The trek was well worth it for as you arrive at the top there is a panoramic view of Mont Blanc. It may be the most incredble view I have ever seen. The impressive mountain is covered in snow and a few large glaciers. The small villages are spread out over the floor of the valley. The slopes are dotted with sheep and you can hear their bells ringing.
After a trecherous walk down, we drove onto a town called Samoens for lunch. Yet another Savoie town oozing charm. The drive down consisted of about an hour of crazy switchbacks. Rachel was hanging from the upholstery. The drive is part of one of the stages of the Tour de France. Unbelievable!
Great group of people at our hotel. Mostly Brits so the French continues to stall.
A bientot!
